Fire protection for companies and premises

« Occupational safety and fire protection

Fire protection rules, evacuation plans, staff training and practical drills, with follow-up of extinguisher and hydrant inspections, for fuel stations, fuel depots, dairies, industry and commercial premises.

Who leads the work

Fire protection work is led by a licensed graduate engineer who has passed the professional examination in fire protection before a commission of the Ministry of the Interior. Details of the examination are listed on the Registrations and permits page.

We work under the Law on Fire Protection and the regulations adopted under it and, for premises with flammable liquids and gases, under the regulations in that field. The aim is documentation that matches the actual state of the premises and employees who know what to do when a fire breaks out, not just paperwork on file.

Scope

  • Fire protection rules, prepared and kept in line with the premises
  • Evacuation plan and instructions for action in case of fire, with a graphic layout of escape routes
  • Basic fire protection training for employees, with a knowledge check
  • Practical evacuation drills and extinguisher handling
  • Organising fire protection for premises in the first, second and third fire-risk categories
  • Fire protection plan for entities in the first and second categories, for approval by the Ministry
  • Placement of fire extinguishers and marking of escape routes
  • Records of training, inspections and tests
  • Arranging regular inspection and servicing of extinguishers, hydrant network testing and checks of fire detection and suppression systems through legal entities authorised by the Ministry
  • Preparation for inspections and follow-up on orders from inspectors of the Sector for Emergency Management
  • Permanent or occasional engagement on fire protection tasks

Fuel stations, fuel depots, dairies and industry

Fuel stations and fuel depots. Explosion hazard zones around dispensers, tanks and transfer points, instructions for receiving fuel from road tankers and for fuel transfer, extinguishers in the right places and trained staff on every shift. Because we also clean tanks and tankers, fire protection and tank work are planned together.

Dairies and food processing. Boiler rooms, refrigeration systems, storage of packaging and cleaning agents and large numbers of shift workers call for clear instructions and regular evacuation drills.

Industry and warehouses. Flammable materials, dust in silos and mills, electrical cabinets, forklift battery charging and high-bay storage are assessed on site, and the measures are written into the rules and instructions.

Working with the Sector for Emergency Management

Inspection of fire protection measures is carried out by the Ministry of the Interior, Sector for Emergency Management. We prepare the documents and records for the inspection, attend it at your request and help you comply with orders within the set deadline.

Design documentation, such as the main fire protection design and designs for fixed fire detection and suppression systems, is described on the Environmental protection consulting page.

How we start

  1. Premises detailsSend the line of business, address, floor area, number of employees, the fire-risk category if one has been assigned, and any documents you already have.
  2. Site visitWe inspect the premises, escape routes, extinguishers, hydrants and areas with flammable materials.
  3. QuoteYou receive a list of what is missing, deadlines and the price for preparation or for ongoing engagement.
  4. Preparation, training and follow-upWe prepare the documents, run the training and drill, and keep track of inspection and servicing deadlines.
Do we need a fire protection plan or fire protection rules?

It depends on the fire-risk category. Entities in the first and second categories adopt a fire protection plan, which is approved by the Ministry of the Interior, while others generally adopt fire protection rules. After reviewing your business and premises, we will tell you exactly what is required.

Who determines the fire-risk category?

The criteria are set by a government decree, and the category is determined by the Ministry of the Interior. The scope of measures and documentation depends on the category.

Who services extinguishers and tests the hydrant network?

Legal entities authorised for this work by the Ministry of the Interior. We arrange the inspections through authorised partners, track the deadlines and keep the findings in the records.

How is staff training carried out?

Basic training is given to new employees and covers theory, hands-on use of an extinguisher and a knowledge check, which is repeated within the deadlines set by regulations. We keep track of when the next training is due.

Do you work at fuel stations that stay open?

Yes. The site visit, training and drill are scheduled at times that least disrupt the station, while tank work is planned separately, with fire and explosion protection measures.

Do you need an evacuation plan, training or fire protection rules? Send the type of premises, address and number of employees, and you will receive a proposal and a quote.
