How a Mole Makes Damage References — completed work Suppression of moles Send an enquiry

A worker kneels over a dilapidated molehill in the lawn.

The mole (Talpa europaea) loosens the ground and helps to decompose, but in the garden, warm lei, greenhouse and on the sports field it does damage. It is active both in summer and winter, so the problem is not solved by itself.

How a Mole Makes Damage

The mole lives exclusively in the country, where it digs entire systems of corridors. In some places, it shoots the earth to the surface and makes mounds they are a sign that there is a molehill. The shelter often chooses along swamps, ponds and rivers, because it has a pronounced preference for water. In Serbia, it is found in almost all plain and partly in hilly regions.

He does not eat plant food. He feeds on insects, worms, field mice, frogs and animal waste. But when he comes across roots, he cuts it off and thus destroys one or more plants.

In the diet it is insatiable: it eats more food per day than it is heavy and does not last more than twelve hours without food. That is why it is constantly in motion, guided by well-developed senses of smell and hearing.

How to Combat

A combined method is proposed physical-mechanical and chemical repulsive together.
- Physico-mechanical part: placement of traps, life traps and dead traps, in molehills
- Chemical part: treatment of molehills with poisonous gas tablets and generators of toxic fog

Suppression of moles

3 jobs, 30 photos.

Is the mole useful or harmful?

Both. Moving through the country helps aeration and decomposition and affects the water regime of the land. But in the gardens, warm beds, greenhouses and on sports grounds the damage it does is more than useful.

Is the mole active in winter?

It is. It is active both in winter and summer.

Does the mole eat the plant?

It does not eat. It feeds on insects, worms, field mice and frogs. Plants are killed indirectly when it encounters roots when digging, it cuts it off.

How do you know there is a mole?

It is the soil that the mole when digging shoots to the surface; the mound means that there is a molehill under it.

You have molehills in your backyard? Tell how big the surface is and how many mounds you've noticed.
